Boom Baby Chex Mix is my thing. I’m known as the Chex mix lady at the holidays, and I’m okay with that. My boys and my dad love this Chex mix. The boys are always thrilled when they see the Chex cereal boxes hanging out on the kitchen counter. This recipe has changed over the years and I’ve settled on the perfect combination.
The name for this recipe came from one of my children. It was his favorite phrase when I settled on my go-to Boom Baby Chex Mix recipe!
Recipe Notes:
I make Boom Baby Chex Mix in a very large batch and sometimes split it into two pans for a nut-free pan and a nut-full pan. When I’m not making two separate pans, I cook this in my large roasting pan. It fits all the ingredients and cooks perfectly with a quick stir every 15 minutes. I promise that the white cheddar dust that’s on the crackers adds something special to the overall flavor of this Chex mix. Don’t take my word for it, try it and find out!
Making meals into memories moment:
I found my love for Chex mix as a child when I was visiting my Aunt in another state. Her and I went to the grocery store to get the necessary ingredients to make this at the holidays. The local grocery didn’t have any regular cheez-it crackers, bummer, or so I thought. We made a game time decision to use white cheddar crackers and I’ve never made it without them. That memory brings to mind joyous times spent as a child with my aunt and cousins. Running around outside, in the sunshine, laughing and enjoying life.
Boom Baby Chex Mix
Total Time
1 hour, 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks or 170 grams) unsalted butter
- 7 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 3 teaspoons seasoned salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 6 cups rice Chex cereal
- 6 cups corn Chex cereal
- 4 cups wheat Chex cereal
- 1 container (8-10 ounces) mixed nuts, lightly salted
- 1 box (7 or 9 ounces) Cheezit white cheddar crackers
- 3 cups add-ins of your choice: pretzels, Gardetto’s garlic rye chips, goldfish, etc.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Place the butter, cut into 3 pieces, in a large roasting pan or foil pan and put it in the oven to melt, you don’t have to wait for the oven to preheat for this step. Keep an eye on it and take it out as soon as all the butter is melted.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the seasoned salt, garlic powder and onion powder and stir together. After the butter has melted, add the seasoning mix to the butter and swirl around to incorporate, next add the worcestershire sauce and continue to swirl the pan until everything is combined. Add the rest of the ingredients to the roaster and gently stir to combine until the sauce is evenly distributed over the cereal mixture.
- Cook in the preheated oven for 1 hour, stirring gently every 15 minutes. Spread the cooked Chex Mix out onto paper towels on the counter to cool before storing in an airtight container.
